On the African Blockchain Series, we will first be taking a look at the Cryptographic Development Initiative in Nigeria. Cryptography Development Initiatives in Nigeria(CDIN) Is a non profit professional organization founded to address the gaps in the learning and practice of cryptography in Nigeria. They are mainly focused on promoting digital economy through cryptographic assurance by supporting cybersecurity and aiding digital investigation in Nigeria.
CDIN as a professional body and NGO have been very active in the Nigerian Blockchain and Digital Currency Ecosystem, actively engaging different government agencies and stake holders to create awareness for Cryptography and Blockchain in Nigeria. Also CDIN has provided the needed framework for Cryptography education, policy advocacy, industry dialogue, creating job opportunities, opening new business horizons and enabling economic transformation while discouraging criminal activities in the Nigerian blockchain/cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Projects carried out by CDIN include:
1. 500 NIGERIA Devs 4 ETHEREUM:
A project with focus in its pilot test is to attract 500 new developers in Africa to improve on their knowledge of the ethereum smart contracts and code base, and see them develop very simple dApps that can be used in their “immediate” environment.
. Campus Blockchain Development Programme(CBDP): This was launched by Blockchain Industry Association of Nigeria which is a Subsidiary of CDIN. One of the objectives of the programme is to give the students early exposure to career and business opportunities being presented by the Blockchain digital innovations thereby stimulating sustainable growth national development. The programme was started in pilot phase involving a few higher institutions in Nigeria that includes Ahmadu Bello University, Federal University of Technology Akure, Kwara state university, Covenant University, and University of Nigeria. Over a thousand seven hundred(1,700) students were engaged during the events. Arrangements is being made with National Information Technology Development Agency(NITDA) to cover other higher institution in the next phase of the programme
