The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Technology Pioneers 2020 is a community that brings together 100 early to growth-stage companies around the world that are pioneering new innovations and technologies. New technology innovations in fields like quantum computing systems, artificial intelligence in diagnosing cancer, use of microbiome to track goods and many others.
Technology Pioneers are an integral part of the WEF Global Innovators Community. This is a select group of the world’s most promising start-ups and scale-ups who are at the forefront of technological and business model innovation. Membership of this group can only be through an invitation by the world economic forum. This means all six blockchain companies will be members of the Global Innovators Community and also be part of the Forum’s Strategic Intelligence Ecosystem.

Blockchain Firms Among Technology Pioneers
The world economic forum started the Technology Pioneers in 2000. But the first time a blockchain firm made the list was in 2015 when Ripple was listed amongst the Technology Pioneers for 2015. Also in 2016 Blockchain.com was recognized among the 100 Technology Pioneers. But in 2020 MakerDAO, Lightning Labs, Elliptic, Chainlink, Ripio and Verdium Labs have all been recognized, this goes a long way to show blockchain is gradually gaining attention and sooner or later blockchain will go mainstream.
